The Two sides of the assisted suicide issue is whether or not it should be legalized. current assisted suicid laws generally say that if a patient of sound mind is terminally ill, they have the right to choose to die or not.
The side against the legalization of assisted suicides have several reasons against it: one that the laws will be expanded to include other people who are not "terminally ill". It could become a way to contain health care costs. could possibly become non-voluntary. and the basic moral argument of a disreguard for human life.
On the opposite side people who are for assisted suicide give reasons for its legalization. The big one of unbearable pain is often the main point for it. Then comes the right for someone to commit suicide. and lastly that people should not be forced to be kept alive.

Yeah that is a really hard topic to take a side on for me because both sides have very good arguments. But if I would have to pick I would say that I am against assisted suicide because we are all supposed to die at some point and I dont think we have the right to choose when that is. But I dont know there are probably situations where I would want the person to die so that is tough. I am still unsure
ReplyDeleteThe aforementioned expansion of suicides to the healthy is merely a scare tactic spewed off by self-righteous buffoons like Rush Limbaugh and Glen Beck.
ReplyDeleteWhen did society do away with sacrifice for the cause and the American public degenerate into self-centered, indignant sloths.
If someone is more deserving of life than I am. I'd give them my kidney. It's only honorable.
That's off topic, though. I believe in all honesty that a person's life is in their own hands. It's wrong when someone takes it from them unjustly, I agree. But if they have made their peace with the world and are content with their decision, I think they deserve their peace.
I don't agree with assisted suicide because I think that everyone has a set time when they are supposed to die. Also if someone wants to die that bad why do they need someone to help them?
ReplyDeleteTo answer your question Wes, a great many assisted suicides happen for that very reason: because many people who ask for it simply cannot do it themselves. They are either too weak, incapacitated, or unable to get the necessary supplies.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I tend to come down on the assisted suicide should not be allowed side of the issue...mainly because I doubt a person has the right and/or authority to end one's own life...that, it seems, is the definition of Vanity.
I also get hung up on the idea that a doctor's oath includes the phrase "Do no harm".
